Ander Herrera set to earn first Spain call-up – report

Ander Herrera is set to be rewarded with a call-up to Spain’s national squad this summer from Vicente del Bosque following his excellent form for Manchester United this year.

Herrera has played for Spain’s U20s, U21s and U23s already in his career but has so far been unable to break into their first-team thanks to the fierce competition for places.

However, reports suggest Del Bosque, who has been keeping tabs on the midfielder, is now ready to call him up for their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus.

It would be a richly deserved reward for Herrera after what has been an excellent year with Manchester United and a testament to how well he has done since joining from Athletic Bilbao.

Herrera was an important player for Spain’s U21s alongside Juan Mata and David de Gea but with a midfield boasting the likes of Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas, he was never afforded an opportunity. Now, that looks set to change.

Fans will be delighted to see Herrera earn the recognition he deserves after some fantastic performances in midfield for Man United. Having had to spend his whole career in the shadow of his Spanish midfield team-mates, Herrera could well be taking centre stage come the summer.
