Manchester United are expected to sell Jonny Evans in order to make way for Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, reports the Belfast Telegraph.
Following Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he will resign as Dortmund manager this year, further pressure has been placed on Hummels’ future at the club.
Whether or not Hummels does arrive is probably irrelevant when it comes to Evans’ future at the club because he is more than likely going to be sold in the summer regardless.
New deals for Paddy McNair, Tyler Blackett and Chris Smalling show where van Gaal has placed his faith and Evans was completely left out of the squad to face Everton this weekend despite being available after his six game suspension.
There was once a time when Evans was arguably United’s best defender. When Nemanja Vidic injured his cruciate ligaments, Evans stepped up and really cemented his place as one of the first names on Sir Alex Ferguson’s team-sheet.
However, since Sir Alex stepped down, it has been a steady decline or Evans to the point where fans now don’t want to see him in van Gaal’s side. At one stage, the future looked very bright for Evans at United but after two disappointing years, there’s every chance he will be shown the exit door.
