Louis van Gaal has insisted Manchester United can win the Premier League title next season by adding “balance” to the squad.
Man United have been in good form since the start of 2015, culminating in a recent six-game winning steak.
However, a poor start to the campaign meant United were never going to challenge for the league this season.
Van Gaal admitted Chelsea are currently the standout team in England but stressed United have the capability to challenge for the title in the next campaign.
When asked about United’s chances next season, van Gaal said: ”There is not a big gap, I don’t think so. You can judge that when the clubs are playing matches against each other. We are very close to the second position. Chelsea are far above the other clubs but that can be different next year.
“We need balance in our selection, I have said that many, many times. I cannot deny that we need balance in our selection. I think also the preparation of our season, I think that Manchester United has already adapted to a better preparation.”
The foundations are certainly there for United when it comes to a title challenge. Van Gaal has transformed players such as Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and Ashley Young and he has got the team playing some good football.
With a few quality additions in the summer, fans will be confident that the next campaign will be a memorable one. However, van Gaal will need to learn how to grind out wins, as the team cannot afford to suffer results such as the 3-0 defeat against Everton last time out.
