Angel Di Maria struggles to impress Manchester United fans

by Richard Laverty

Angel Di Maria once again played a cameo role as Manchester United sunk to their third defeat in a row against West Brom on Saturday.

With Juan Mata and Ashley Young remaining in their positions on the wing, Di Maria had to make do with his familiar position on the bench, but was given half an hour to make an impact.

Unfortunately, despite a few good runs and picking up good positions, the Argentine’s end product was about as bad as it’s ever been, each and every cross failing to find a United player.

He did have one good effort towards the end, finding space outside the box and forcing a top save from Boaz Myhill, but United supporters want to see more.

After costing the best part of £60m in the summer, Di Maria’s start to life at Old Trafford was a good as it could possibly have been, but he has failed to find the net in the league since October.

Despite a superb assist record, Di Maria has done little to justify a starting spot, but with the team desperately struggling to create meaningful chances, now might be the best time to allow him to pay some of his fee back.
