Player Ratings: Manchester United 0-1 West Brom

by Richard Laverty

David de Gea 5 Had nothing to do, literally didn’t have more than a handful of touches but could do nothing about the goal.

Antonio Valencia 5 One of the few who tried to initiate United attacks and move the ball forward, but end product was again found wanting.

Chris Smalling 6 Continued recent good form. Looked comfortable on the ball and made a few strong tackles.

Patrick McNair 5 Didn’t happen for him today, continued to look a touch nervy and committed a clumsy foul which cost his side dearly.

Daley Blind 4 Didn’t continue the previous good form he’d shown down the left. Couldn’t find space in behind West Brom.

Wayne Rooney 5 Tried hard to make things happen but once again looked lost in midfield. United need a way to get him back up front soon.

Ander Herrera 5 Some nice touches and tried to get moves started, but West Brom’s brick wall didn’t play to his strengths.

Marouane Fellaini 5 Really put himself about, went up front in the second half and caused some chaos, but end product wasn’t there.

Juan Mata 4 Kept cutting inside and passing sideways or backwards. Just couldn’t influence the game, his time on the wing may be coming to an end.

Ashley Young 6 Caused West Brom issues and was unlucky to see a goal-bound effort blocked by a teammate.

Robin van Persie 5 Looked lively on his return and had United’s main chances, but missed a huge chance when United were awarded a penalty.

Angel Di Maria 4 Nothing stuck for him. He made the runs and put in the effort but final ball was poor. Was unlucky with a late effort, forced a good save from Myhill.

Radamel Falcao N/A Barely had a touch as United struggled to get the ball in the box late on.
