Robin van Persie was handed a starring role in Manchester United’s clash against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and the Dutchman enjoyed an encouraging start to the game.
First of all, van Persie’s nice turn and shot stung the hands of Baggies keeper Boaz Myhill before he guided Ashley Young’s cut-back wide of the post.
After scoring twice for the U21s against Fulham earlier this week, the 31-year-old looked sharp against West Brom.
However, his performance gradually worsened towards the end of the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
Man United’s play became increasingly laboured and van Persie missed a penalty late on which would have brought the two sides back on level terms.
Van Persie’s United future is currently up in the air, with rumours in the last few weeks suggesting that he may be let go at the end of the season.
His penalty miss certainly would have done little to endear himself to Louis van Gaal. United look far better with Wayne Rooney up top and Michael Carrick in midfield so van Persie’s days at the club may be numbered.
