Jose Mourinho: I’ll never match Sir Alex Ferguson’s achievements

by Ben Topliss

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes he has “no chance” of matching Sir Alex Ferguson’s haul of 13 Premier League titles.

Mourinho secured his third league title on Sunday following Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Ferguson is widely regarded to be the best manager of all-time having won numerous trophies during his 26-year spell in charge of Man United.

Mourinho insisted Ferguson left an impossible bar to match and that no-one will ever repeat his success.

When asked if he could catch up to Ferguson, Mourinho said: ”I have a long way to go, but Sir Alex left the bar in an impossible position for anyone. I cannot win 13 Premier Leagues.

“I can win 13 championships. I can. I have eight, I think I can go to 13. But 13 Premier Leagues, no, no chance.”

Mourinho is a fantastic manager and coach but he is absolutely right. There will never be another quite like Ferguson.

However, Louis van Gaal is doing his best and has steadied the ship following the disastrous reign of David Moyes. With a few good signings and a solid pre-season, there is no reason why United cannot challenge Chelsea and Mourinho for the title next term.
