Gareth Bale’s agent has angrily hit back at former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane after he criticised the Welshman’s performance in the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.
Bale was poor for Real Madrid against Juventus and received scathing criticism from press in both England and Spain.
The 25-year-old has endured a season to forget for Madrid and has been strongly linked with a move to Man United in recent weeks.
Keane wasn’t impressed with Bale and stated that Madrid might as well have been playing with ten men.
Speaking about Bale, Keane said: ”You say a lack of confidence from Bale but he kept making the easy decision. The reason he’s at Real Madrid is to be brave and get at people.
“Every time he got at people, even on one v ones, he turned back. His teammates can’t be happy with him because he took the easy option every time.”
Following the match, Bale’s representative, Jonathan Barnett, defended the winger and insisted he will take no notice of comments from “failed” managers.
”Why should we take any notice of comments from people who don’t know what they are talking about – and from people who have failed in management.
“This is only an issue in England. Gareth is at the biggest club in the world. He is one of the best players in the world. He is fine.
“He only listens to relevant comments. He is 100% focussed on Real Madrid.”
Barnett is conveniently forgetting that Keane was one of the finest midfielders to ever grace a football pitch.
He knows a thing or two about performing at the highest level and his opinion carries a lot of weight, despite a disappointing spell in management. Bale was awful and should be prepared to face the criticism that comes his way.
