Manchester United’s potential 4-3-3 vs Crystal Palace – Van Persie starts

by Ben Topliss

The 62 minutes that Phil Jones played for Manchester United’s U21s against Southampton on Monday night will delight Louis van Gaal ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend.

Jones has been sidelined for a few weeks due to injury but he looked composed and confident during the run-out.

Paddy McNair has been filling in at centre-back in the absence of Jones and Marcos Rojo but prior to his injury, Jones was a regular in United’s starting XI and is certainly in contention to return against Crystal Palace if he is fit.

Three points is vital against Palace after consecutive defeats to Chelsea, Everton and West Brom, so van Gaal won’t be afraid to bring players straight back into his team if he feels the changes are needed.

Elsewhere, Robin van Persie may continue his role up front for United despite his penalty miss against West Brom.

It was a costly error as United eventually lost 1-0 but van Gaal will know that one game does not make a bad player.

Alan Pardew has turned Palace into a formidable force since his arrival there earlier in the season and United will need to be on top form if they are to take away a positive result and stay in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
