Manchester United open talks with Memphis Depay – report

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Memphis Depay and have opened talks with his representatives, reports AD.nl in Holland.

PSV had previously said both Liverpool and Paris St Germain were further ahead of Man United in terms of signing Depay as they had already opened talks with the 21-year-old but it looks like United have now played their hand by beginning negotiations.

United are considered favourites to sign Depay because Louis van Gaal‘s presence as manager is something that gives the Dutch winger some confidence as he has played underneath him with Holland, so is already aware of his strengths as a player.

AD.nl also reports that PSV are happy for Depay’s agent Kees Ploegsma to talk to United as they are willing to meet their €25m valuation and that figure is certainly well within van Gaal’s reach in what is expected to be another free spending summer.

It’s a surprise that United weren’t the first club to open negotiations with Depay but now they are under way, he is now a step closer to what is an almost expected move to Old Trafford.
