The 19-year-old defender was hit in the nose with the forearm of a Palace defender and went down holding his face.
Having been looked at by Man United’s medical staff, Shaw looked very groggy and had to be stretchered off the pitch.
Despite the bad looking injury, Van Gaal told Sky Sports after the game that Shaw will be able to fly back to Manchester with the team which indicate his injury is not too serious.
“He has gone to the hospital but I have good news but he will come with us to the airport,” Van Gaal confirmed.
“So, it’s not so bad.”
Shaw has been desperately unlucky with so many injury problems this season and there is nothing he can do about being on the wrong end of an arm to his face.
That being said, it’s great news to hear he is OK to fly back with the squad tonight but he must now be considered a doubt for the Arsenal game next weekend.
