Man United fans happy to see Juan Mata return to form

by Richard Laverty

Juan Mata bounced back from a couple of poor performances to score a crucial penalty which put Manchester United on the way to their first win in four.

The goal took Mata to nine in the league, and the first midfielder to hit 10 since Paul Scholes in 2005. Despite three penalty misses from his last four at Chelsea, the Spaniard dispatched his latest effort with ease.

But on top of that, the midfielder looked much more composed, linked play well and was influential when United attacked.

He did give the ball away a few times and was clumsy defensively, but supporters were relieved to see him start influencing the team again.

Despite up and down performances, nobody can question Mata’s scoring form as he reached 15 Premier League goals for United at Selhurst Park.

With the potential of two rather meaningless games coming up if Chelsea beat Liverpool, players like Mata should really be able to break the shackles against Arsenal next week.
