Memphis Depay thanks PSV fans ahead of Manchester United transfer

Memphis Depay has thanked PSV Eindhoven fans for the reception they gave after he played his final home game for the club he’s been at since 2006.

Depay agreed a deal to join Manchester United last week and despite losing one of their best players, PSV fans appear as excited as United fans about Depay’s next move.

With Dutch teams never expecting to hold on to their best players, supporters in Holland will hope Depay can follow in the footsteps of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Park Ji-Sung who also made the same move as well as the likes of Arjen Robben, who originally moved to Chelsea.

With Depay also a key part of the Holland squad, it’s likely PSV fans and other Dutch supporters will be hoping Depay can turn into a world class player, with the national side struggling since Louis van Gaal‘s departure.

But the attacker, who scored his 22nd Eredivisie goal of the season with a superb free-kick on Sunday, was clearly touched by the reception and thanked his current fans on Twitter after the game.

Depay will join United in the summer and has a full pre-season to stake a claim for a starting spot with Angel Di Maria likely to be away at the Copa America in June.
