Should Van Persie come back into the team for Rooney or should Man United’s captain keep his spot up front? It’s an important question with a very straightforward answer – no.
There is only one striker who should start up front for United when everybody is fit and that is Rooney.
In this 4-3-3 formation which Louis van Gaal has started to use in every game, Van Persie doesn’t work in it any more. You need a striker with lots of energy to play in that isolated role up front and that’s not what you get with Van Persie any more.
It’s going to be interesting to see what the short-term and long-term future holds for Van Persie at United but when it comes to making a straight choice between starting him or Rooney up front, there is one clear winner at the moment.
Other than that, Luke Shaw starting at left-back would be great to see after he had to be stretchered off against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
What do you think of this as Man United’s starting XI vs Arsenal?
