It was only 16 months ago that Mata himself was hugged by David de Gea after arriving as a new Man United at Carrington in a helicopter and although Depay is unlikely to be doing anything as extravagant, he will be given the same warm welcome.
Much like Mata, Depay will also have a comfortable environment which shouldn’t feel too foreign for him. Fellow Dutchmen Louis van Gaal, Daley Blind and Robin van Persie are all at the club already, so he’ll have those to help him through the early stages after his move.
“Like any new team-mate arriving here, he will be welcomed and we will help him to settle in quickly. But right now we must focus on the last two games.”
The Spanish armada of Mata, Ander Herrera and David de Gea have all been crucial to the success of this season. Next door neighbours off the pitch and close knit team-mates on it, that Spanish trio is one of United’s greatest assets at the moment.
Next year, could Blind, Depay and Van Persie, spearheaded by Van Gaal, become another important clique who help push United back to the top where they belong?
