Netherlands manager Guus Hiddink believes Memphis Depay’s transfer to Manchester United will have a positive impact on his development.
Depay fired PSV Eindhoven to the Eredivisie this season but detractors have criticised the strength of the league.
However, the 21-year-old was named on the three-man shortlist for the best young player award at the 2014 World Cup.
Hiddink insisted the higher standard of the Premier League will only improve Depay as a player.
Speaking about the move, Hiddink said: “He [Depay] comes to play on a higher stage. There are new rules, and that is good for him to experience.
“He’s ready to go. Lots of hard contests, higher speed and different rules in the dressing rooms. That’s good for his development and then also good for the Netherlands.”
The sky really is the limit for Depay, who has bags of potential. If he maintains his excellent attitude off the pitch then there is no reason why he can’t become one of the world’s best players.
Hopefully, his transfer is the first of many for United this summer. The current squad is unbalanced and needs improving in several areas. Players such as Paul Pogba, Mats Hummels and Aymeric Laporte have been linked with moves to Old Trafford and it is certainly an exciting time to be a United supporter.
