Mats Hummels expected to follow Memphis Depay to Manchester United – report

Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels is expected to follow Memphis Depay to Manchester United, reports The Telegraph.

Mark Ogden also suggests Nathaniel Clyne, Aymeric Laporte, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal are four more players who Louis van Gaal is interested in signing.

Earlier this month, the Belfast Telegraph insinuated Jonny Evans was set to make way for Hummels and stories linking the World Cup winning defender to Man United look like they are continuing to gather momentum.

On paper, Hummels is the leader figure which United are so desperately in need but his injury record should get fans questioning whether he can be relied on, as he has the potential to be another defender at the club plagued with problems.

The centre-back position is widely considered to be the position where United must strengthen first but with relatively few world class defenders available, it’s going to be a tough ask for Van Gaal to get the player he wants.

As for the other four names mentioned, they have all been linked at one point over the course of the last few transfer windows and they will no doubt continue to be right up until the end of the summer or, of course, until they sign for the club.
