Manchester United’s U21s have been crowned Premier League champions tonight following Chelsea’s loss against West Ham.
After humiliating Manchester City 4-0 at Old Trafford during the week, Man United knew anything but a Chelsea win tonight would see them crowned champions.
It means Warren Joyce has steered United’s U21s to three Premier League titles in the last four years. That record is phenomenal when you consider how much his squad changes due to loan spells, players being called up to the first-team and, of course, injuries.
Louis van Gaal will be delighted to see the U21s winning the title with one game to spare and having brought through so many youngsters into the first-team this season, he’ll no doubt be looking to do the same again next year.
Thanks to Chelsea losing tonight, it means United go into their last game of the season against Manchester City as champions.
As long as the senior Premier League rules apply, United’s youngsters will be given a guard of honour by Manchester City. What a perfect way to end the season that would be.
