Wayne Rooney set to return for Hull City game – report

Wayne Rooney is set to return for Manchester United in this weekend’s final fixture of the Premier League season away to Hull City.

Man United’s captain missed the game against Arsenal following an injury which he sustained during the victory over Crystal Palace in the previous game week.

Radamel Falcao started in Rooney’s place but was once again ineffective in terms of creating a genuine goalscoring threat, so Louis van Gaal will be delighted to have his main striker back.

That being said, Robin van Persie is also likely to be available for the game so there is certainly no guarantee Rooney will start against Hull City.

From a personal standpoint, I’m not sure there is any reason why Rooney should play and potentially risk aggravating an injury in what is a showpiece fixture.

United have already secured a top four spot and can no longer overtake Arsenal to take third spot, so the result on Sunday is largely irrelevant apart from wanting to finish the season on a high.

Rooney will no doubt want to play if he is it and maybe he’ll vindicate the decision if he does start by repeating his wonder volley from last season which he scored at Hull.
