Louis van Gaal has chosen David de Gea as his Manchester United Player of the Year and praised his outstanding development as a player this season.

The 24-year-old has been responsible for winning so many points single handedly for United thanks to his fantastic performances.

Stand-out games for De Gea include Liverpool and Everton at home but there are countless other occasions where the Spaniard really has been the reason why United have won games.

Van Gaal is not one for individual praise but at a time where De Gea is being heavily linked with an exit, he said:  “Which player has impressed me the most? David de Gea if you look at the fans’ view.

“As a manager I have observed him and seen his progress this season. There has been fantastic development from him.

“As a manager, that’s what you look for the most. That’s why De Gea has impressed me the most, because of his development.”

Everybody is keeping their fingers and toes crossed that De Gea will sign a new contract and remain at the club but there is certainly an awareness of how heavily interested Madrid are in signing him.

Fans are desperate for De Gea to sign and Van Gaal will be equally as hopeful that he will sign a new deal.
