Sam Grimshaw confirms he’ll be joining Manchester United in July for another trial

Sam Grimshaw has confirmed that he has been invited back to Manchester United for a second trial in July ahead of a potential move to the club.

The 21-year-old full-back spent time on trial at Man United earlier this year and obviously did well enough to earn himself a second trial.

Grimshaw currently plays for Glossop North End and will join up with United for at least five weeks, although he is unsure as to whether he will go on the pre-season tour.

“I got a call from my agent saying they wanted to take a look at me,” Grimshaw told Manchester Evening News.

“It was brilliant news. It is a big opportunity of course with United and I have got to try and take the chance as I have always been a fan of the club.

“They asked me to go in for a one week trial and that was extended until the end of the season.

“Now they want me to go back in July. I cannot wait.”

When questioned about his involvement in the pre-season tour, Grimshaw added: “I am not going on tour as far as I am aware.

“All I know is I am doing a pre-season and playing a few games after training with them for five weeks.”

Even if Grimshaw is officially signed, it’s highly unlikely that he would join the first-team on their pre-season tour but the fact he has been called back for a second trial indicates United’s staff have seen something in him and want to explore it more.

At 21, Grimshaw is certainly old enough to be playing first-team football but whether he is good enough remains to be seen.
