Louis van Gaal expects busy Manchester United transfer window

Louis van Gaal expects Manchester United to be very busy this summer in the transfer window both with incomings and outgoings.

Last summer Van Gaal spent a club record £150m to bring in six new faces overall which helped United secure a top four spot the all-important UEFA Champions League qualification position.

Although there were improvements in the league, Van Gaal knows changes have to happen in order to make United competitive again in the chase for silverware.

Speaking to MUTV at the Player of the Year awards, van Gaal said: “It’s always like that [busy in the summer]. I don’t think you have to keep the whole selection because when you purchase other players, you get another stimulus in the group and you need that.

“Our selection is out of balance and we have managed to be fourth in the league but we have to manage to be the champions. That’s why we have to take care first of the balance of the selection but also to improve our selection because we want to be the champions. It shall be a rough summer I think for a lot of players but I think a top club like Manchester United have to do that.”

Memphis Depay 14

The signing of Memphis Depay may well be indicative of a change in approach from Man United to move back towards securing content as early as possible rather than dithering.

Van Gaal added: “The fans are demanding that and also the Manchester United board – I have read that already! But it shall be difficult, because it is not easy in the Premier League. You have seen that this year and you.”

Next season was always going to be very interesting from United’s perspective and with Van Gaal at the helm with new players at his disposal, United should genuinely be pushing for the title once again.
