Dani Alves has rejected Barcelona’s final contract offer and is set to leave the club this summer, reports Cadena SER in Spain.
The 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and having turned down Barcelona’s latest and last offer of a new deal, will hold a press conference next week where he will discuss his future.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with Alves and reports suggested on more than one occasion that Louis van Gaal wanted to bring him in at right-back to Old Trafford.
As Rafael’s future is uncertain at the club and Antonio Valencia is not a natural right-back, United are certainly short in that department and will most certainly be signing a right-back in the summer.
The fact Alves is available on a free is a bonus for whoever buys him and he certainly has bags of experience but is he what United need?
At 32, Alves certainly isn’t a spring chicken but Van Gaal may look at him and see the sort of experienced player who he wants to help sure up United’s defence.
Fans are split over Alves; some are certain he is not the right player to sign while others think he could be a great short term fix for a problem position at United.
One thing is for sure – after rejecting a final offer, he is going to leave Barcelona. Whether that means he’s going to join United remains to be seen.
