Manchester United interested in Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger – report

Manchester United are interested in Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger and will make a move for him in the summer transfer window, according to the Telegraph’s Mark Ogden.

Louis van Gaal wants to add an experienced midfielder to his squad due to the over-reliance on Michael Carrick.

Schweinsteiger has one-year remaining on his current contract at Bayern and is refusing to sign a new deal at the club.

Officials at Bayern and Man United have already discussed a transfer for the 30-year-old and van Gaal is confident of securing his signature.

The Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman insists the process with Schweinsteiger has already been started.

Meanwhile, United are still keen on Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Paul Pogba despite conflicting stories in the press regarding their futures.

Schweinsteiger is undoubtedly past his best but he retains the ability to make a massive impact in the Premier League.

Capable of bullying opponents, Schweinsteiger is exactly what United need. If he did move to Old Trafford, he would become the first German to play for the club.
