Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has insisted Iker Casillas wants to stay at the Bernabeu despite the fact that the club continue to be continue to be linked with a move for Manchester United’s David de Gea.
Casillas has gone through a tough season at Madrid and has often been booed by his own fans which has led to plenty of speculation as to whether he will be a Madrid player next season.
Meanwhile, De Gea is yet to comment on reports that he is set to join Madrid at the end of the season.
Ancelotti dismissed suggestions that the game against Getafe this weekend will be Casillas’ last at the club.
Speaking about the situation, Ancelotti said: “Casillas did not ask me to play this last game, it was my decision [to start him]. Casillas wants to stay and I believe both parts will be happy.”
The news could offer Man United fans hope that De Gea could yet stay at Old Trafford as it is unlikely that Casillas will settle for a regular spot on the substitute’s bench.
However, pessimistic supporters will simply say that Casillas has accepted his fate and that De Gea will be no.1 at Madrid. Either way, the signs aren’t good. If De Gea really wanted to stay, he would have dismissed the reports months ago.
