Victor Valdes receives mixed reactions from Manchester United fans

by Richard Laverty

Injury to David De Gea meant fellow Spaniard Victor Valdes got his first start for Manchester United against Hull City.

With Valdes’ future at the club looking more stable than his Spanish compatriot, it was a good chance to see what Valdes can do and his performance certainly mirrored the early months of De Gea.

Whilst he got caught out several times in the air, the goalkeeper did make two excellent saves to deny Hull, who themselves were trying to fight off relegation.

Despite a mixed bag, fans were largely receptive to the performance of Valdes but unconvinced on whether he should be No.1 if De Gea leaves.

On the plus side, Valdes kept a clean sheet on his first start which is a boost for any goalkeeper, especially one who hasn’t started a professional match in well over a year.

It seems he will definitely be at Old Trafford next season but in what capacity nobody yet knows.
