Memphis Depay is keen to start strongly at Manchester United and admits he wants to live up to €30m price tag.
The 21-year-old won’t be unveiled until the transfer window officially opens but has already agreed a deal and passed his medical with the club.
“I still can’t sign my contract at United until the transfer market opens,” Depay said.
“I’m actually still at PSV. It is a special situation because I’ve still not been officially presented.”
When discussing Louis van Gaal, Depay made it clear that there is a special bond between the two and you can see he was a big influence in deciding to join United this summer.
He added: “Van Gaal is important to me. We know each other well and we had a great conversation.
“He didn’t have to explain to me what sort of club United are. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
Comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo have flooded in following the announcement of his move to United but instead of being overwhelmed by the pressure, Depay is taking it all in his stride.
“They’ve paid quite a bit for me,” Depay said.
“I want to start right and I feel ready for that. I do not know why I have to be calm.”
When asked by the press whether he felt extra pressure on international duty now that he has completed his move to United, Depay said: “I do not feel it. Expectations are always high when I play. There, you have to deal with and that I can only find nice.”
With a solid head on his shoulders and a strong work ethic, as well as bags of talent, Depay has everything he needs to succeed.
Sometimes young footballers can get too big for their boots too early but all the early signs indicate Depay is keen to work even harder and make himself the best player he possibly can be.
