Manchester United goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek believes David de Gea has the potential to become a legend at the club.
De Gea has been superb over the course of the campaign and almost single-handedly earned Man United a top four spot in the Premier League with a string of excellent performances.
However, there have been strong rumours that the Spaniard is set for a move to Real Madrid in the summer.
Hoek hailed De Gea and insisted he can write himself into United folklore if he stays at Old Trafford.
When asked if De Gea can become a United legend, Hoek said: “Yes, because he is at one of the biggest clubs in the world. The moment you start playing at a high level there [United], you become great. If you continue doing it, then gradually you become one of the better players in the world.
“He showed at a very young age that he is excellent in all aspects of the game. In construction and also in defence. So nothing stands in his way to become one of the best like Peter Schmeichel or Edwin van der Sar.”
De Gea is already considered to be the one of the best keepers in the world and, at 24-years-old, he still has his peak years ahead of him.
United fans have shown just how much they love De Gea and the club have offered him huge wages as part of a new deal. It would be a shame if he were to throw that all away, especially to a club like Madrid. After all, they sacked Carlo Ancelotti this week a year after he gave them their tenth Champions League title.
