The former Barcelona player arrived at Old Trafford in January as a free agent but was made to wait for his opportunity thanks to the excellent form of David de Gea.
Valdes suffered from a few nervy moments against Hull but eventually made a string of superb saves to secure Louis van Gaal’s side a point.
Hoek was delighted to see Valdes do so well in the clash after he suffered a major knee injury last year.
Speaking about Valdes, Hoek said: “Victor had a big role in a team [Barcelona] which won all these trophies by playing so well, so it was fantastic to see how he overcame his big injury.
“We have been working on that very hard so slowly but surely he’s getting back to his best again. He’s very eager to work hard and to improve.”
Valdes is one of the most highly decorated players of his generation so he may have been expecting to play in a few more games over the course of the campaign.
It would have been easy for him to become disgruntled but the 33-year-old has never complained about his situation. Instead, he often speaks of how happy he has been to see De Gea do so well. It is an excellent attitude for a United player to have as the club prepares for Champions League football next season.
