Mats Moller Daehli suffers relegation with SC Freiburg

Ex-Manchester United youngster Mats Møller Dæhli topped off a quite devastating season by being relegated with SC Freiburg on Satuday.

The Norwegian, formerly a key player for United at both U18s and U21s level over his two years at the club, was only able to play twice for the Brazilian’s of Breisgau after his January transfer from Cardiff before he picked up the well-known ‘jumpers knee’ injury due to an excessively increased workload in training.

In other words, Daehli spent the spring in the stands, watching his teammates in their battle for Bundesliga survival.

On the final day of the season, they still had their fate in their own hands but after losing 2-1 away to Hannover, with the former United goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler in goal, Freiburg’s fate was sealed.
There was still hope even until the last minute as a single point would have been enough because of their ‘decent’ (going by relegation standards) goal difference.

When Daehli left United, followers of the academy were desperately disappointed because he had shown such promise in the U18s but he left in order to play first-team football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Since then, instead of progressing in his career Daehli has hopped between teams and has now suffered the pain of relegation. Here’s hoping he is able to find a stable team and live up to the potential which he showed in such abundance during his time at United.
