Memphis Depay, Daley Blind and Robin van Persie called up for Netherlands duty

by Richard Laverty

Manchester United’s Dutch trio have all made the latest Netherlands squad as countries around Europe prepare for the latest round of Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Robin van Persie and Daley Blind have been regular United players in recent squads, and they’re joined by new recruit Memphis Depay, making it three United stars in Guus Hiddink’s squad.

Depay, and Blind, became regular stars in the squad under Louis van Gaal, both scoring and assisting goals in last summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Dutch will host USA in a friendly in Blind’s former home stadium on June 5th, before travelling to Latvia for a qualifier that the side desperately need three points from.

With Van Persie and other stars such as Arjen Robben struggling with injuries lately, Hiddink has struggled to pick up results and has seen his position as manager come under constant threat.

Whilst there are a number of young players that Van Gaal introduced to the squad last year, Netherlands need to be able to call on the experience and quality of players such as Van Persie, but they’ll hope a high-flying Depay can be the spark they need with Arjen Robben still missing.

Blind and Depay are almost certain to be at Old Trafford come August, but there are still questions over whether Van Persie’s immediate future remains at the club.
