Ashley Young has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for May after beating Ander Herrera and Chris Smalling in the fan-voted poll.

Young was superb over the course of the campaign and is thoroughly deserving of all the plaudits which are coming his way.

The midfielder earned 57% of the votes after registering three assists in May, including two in the crucial 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Herrera, who has been equally as impressive this term, finished second with 34% of the vote while Smalling received 9%.

There were calls for Young to be sold last summer following a disappointing string of performances but the 29-year-old has completely turned around his fortunes this term.

Aside from the obvious David de Gea, Young has been one of United’s standout performers this season along with the likes of Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.

Memphis Depay will arrive at United this summer but he faces a challenge to get into the starting XI if Young continues his fine form.
