No sooner after a journalist on Spanish radio station COPE claimed Manchester United had made initial inquiries over Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane, another has taken it a step further.
Fellow COPE presenter Melchor Ruiz has boldly said Man United are willing to offer a staggering €150m for both Bale and Varane.
These have also been reported by Cuatro TV who took the claims further by suggesting a bid was already on the table, and had been rejected.
A quick look at what Ruiz has claimed in the past shows us Ruiz was behind reports that Carlo Ancelotti said signing Javier Hernandez was a mistake which may well have been truthful at the time, but Chicharito then went on to have a superb run of form for Madrid.
With these reports, given that Bale joined Madrid for €100m and has improved at the Spanish club, you’d imagine his value was upwards of that figure. As for Varane, the 22-year-old Frenchman is widely considered one of the best defensive talents in European football so any fee upwards of €30m would not at all be a surprise.
€150m for Bale and Varane? That would be the sort of double signing which would send shockwaves around European football given how important both players are to the club and one that is surely very unlikely to come off, regardless how much is offered (within reason).
