Andreas Pereira‘s Brazil got off to a winning start at the U20s World Cup with a 4-2 victory over Nigeria.

The 20-year-old midfielder was taken off after 46 minutes so will no doubt be disappointed he couldn’t complete the full 90 minutes but he’ll take plenty of heart from Brazil securing three points and a winning start to the tournament.

Brazil U20s coach Rogerio Micale explained the decision to take Pereira off:”Andreas Pereira was good, but he lacked something. Boschilia came on and made a big difference and offered more movement.”

Next up for Brazil is a game against Hungary on Thursday 4 June with a kick-off time of 8am GMT.

Pereira might have wanted to contribute more in the victory but the mere fact he started the game is a show of confidence in his ability from Micale, so he’ll now focus on the upcoming game against Hungary.

It’s been a great season of progress for Pereira and his inclusion in the Brazil U20s squad for this World Cup is testament to that and he’ll be looking to have a very impressive tournament in order to work his way into Louis van Gaal‘s plans.
