Juventus’ Andrea Pirlo has revealed Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is the one player he would have liked to have played with.
Scholes, who retired for a second time in 2013 following a long and successful career at Man United, is widely considered to be one of the greatest players to have ever played at Old Trafford.
Calm and composed on the ball, the Englishman commanded the middle of the park for United and rarely lost possession during a game.
Pirlo revealed his admiration for Scholes and the way he conducted himself off the pitch.
Speaking about Scholes, Pirlo said: “I have been so fortunate to have played with so many incredible players throughout my career, but if I could pick one that I never got the chance to play with, it would be Paul Scholes.
“One of the all-time greats. A genius on the field, but private – no circus around him off it. I have a lot of respect for him.”
Pirlo has enjoyed an equally as impressive career in Italian football and will be looking to cap his time at Juventus by winning the Champions League final this weekend.
Meanwhile, Scholes is now working as a television pundit. It is unlikely that United fans will ever see a player as good as the 40-year-old again but Ander Herrera has been endearing himself to the Old Trafford faithful following a string of superb performances.
