Manchester United striker Robin van Persie believes Louis van Gaal will spend £200m this summer in order to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League title.
Van Gaal’s squad is currently imbalanced and the club have been linked with moves for the likes of Mats Hummels and Gareth Bale as a result.
Last summer, Man United signed six players including Ander Herrera, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao before finishing fourth in the league.
Van Persie revealed he expects United to splash out again this year as they bid to take the Premier League crown from Chelsea.
Speaking about the club’s summer plans, van Persie said: ”United spent £200m on players last year and they are going to spend another £200m this summer so we will have a team that can compete for the title.”
As much as United fans would not like to see the club throwing money at their problems, it is clear that the squad needs a drastic overhaul if they are to be successful in the future.
Van Persie himself faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford following a number of mediocre performances last term. With Radamel Falcao also off the books at United, Van Gaal will be keen to bring a striker in.
