Ander Herrera: I’m really happy in Manchester

by Robbie Dunne

Ander Herrera is delighted with how his time as a Manchester United career have gone so far and said he was very happy to be part of the club’s history.

The former Atletico Bilbao player joined Man United last summer following a failed attempt to sign the midfielder during the summer of 2013 under David Moyes.

Herrera played 26 games under Louis van Gaal in his first season at Manchester, netted six goals and put in some very solid performances as the year went on.

Hererra, speaking to Elite Sport Magazine, spoke of his enjoyment playing for a team with such an exciting long-term plan:

“I’m really happy in Manchester. It’s a great city and a really exciting club. Obviously I miss my friends and family sometimes, but that’s why when I return to Spain, I spend as much time as I can with them.”

Recalling when the opportunity arose to sign for the Red Devils last summer, Herrera admits: “I joined Manchester United because they’re a fantastic club, who actually have an exciting long-term plan, and I want to be a part of that.

“Moving to United was a great step in my career and I knew there would be many challenges ahead, something which motivates me, both as a player and a person.

“I signed a contract for a number of seasons and I’ve only really got started. My desire is to be and important player for the club. I’m not thinking about anything other than triumphing with United.”

Herrera will be expected to pick up where he finished last season as he began to really find his groove under Van Gaal’s watch.

Herrera started all 12 of United’s game to end the season and landed four of his goals during this time. The Premier League is notoriously difficult to adjust to and Herrera found the going tough at the beginning but coped well with the adversity that comes with adopting a new language and city.

Given more time to develop, there is a strong feeling that Herrera can become a United legend.
