Manchester United offered Atletico Madrid’s Mario Mandzukic – report

Manchester United have been offered striker Mario Mandzukic by Athletico Madrid according to the Daily Mail

The Croatian joined the Spanish giants for £18m last season and has since netted 20 goals across the campaign. Despite his impressive start, the former Bayern Munich man hasn’t scored since February.

Mandzukic has captured the interest of clubs worldwide. Teams such as Roma and AC Milan are keeping a close eye on the striker but after an alleged fall out with his coaches, the club are prepared to satisfy Mandzukic’s desire to become a Premier League player.

From Manchester United’s perspective, a new striker is certainly a priority in the transfer window. Louis van Gaal has already decided not to follow up a deal on loanee Ramadal Falcao and veteran striker Robin Van Persie may well be leaving in order to find regular first-team football.

The Croatian striker is not particularly suited to the 4-3-3 formation which Van Gaal is likely to adopt next season on a permanent basis but he’s deadly in front of goal.

For Mandzukic himself, the pressure of replacing a big name strikers is nothing new. After all, this season he replaced Chelsea signing Diego Costa at Atletico Madrid but whether he is what Louis van Gaal wants is uncertain at the moment.
