Real Madrid closing in on David de Gea, expected to make moves this week

by Ben Topliss

David de Gea is ‘very close’ to joining Real Madrid and a deal could be pushed through within the next week ahead of him being unveiled at the club, report Marca.

The keeper has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid for a number of months now and he is yet to comment on the speculation.

The Telegraph and The Independent have both separately followed up with their own De Gea stories and insist Madrid are going to make advances this week.

De Gea is said to be keen on a change of scenery after four seasons at Man United and his family are based in Madrid.

United have offered De Gea a new deal along with huge wages but the 24-year-old’s heart is set on Madrid.

The news comes after reports in the Spanish press suggested Iker Casillas is set to leave Madrid and pave the way for De Gea to join.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there is much more that United can do to persuade De Gea to stay at Old Trafford.

It is hard to begrudge him a move which will take him closer to his loved ones but it would still leave a bitter taste in the mouth. After all, United took De Gea on as a scrawny youngster before making him one of the best keepers in the world.
