Harry Redknapp: Gareth Bale would turn Manchester United into Premier League champions

Former QPR manager Harry Redknapp firmly believes Gareth Bale would turn Manchester United into Premier League champions.

Since the departure of Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, the reds have failed to come close to winning the league title but with the addition of Bale, Redknapp believes this could soon change.

The 2013 PFA Player of the Year has endured an up and down spell with the Spanish giants since his move in 2013. Despite scoring in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph last year, the midfielder has struggled for form and has even been jeered by fans on several occasions.

When asked if Bale could turn United into a top four side by Press Association Sport, Redknapp replied: “Absolutely.

“If you said to me, as a Premier League manager you could have the pick of one player in the world, it would be Gareth above any other player – if he wanted to come back.

“A year ago, for me, he was the third best player in the world. He maybe has fallen behind Neymar and Luis Suarez now but he could come back here, as a fantastic footballer, and if he came back to England he could change the fortunes of a football club – he has that much ability.”

Before the arrival of Angel di Maria and now Memphis Depay, the idea of signing Bale was tantalising for United fans but the thought of spending around £80m for him now seems preposterous.

If anybody is going to arrive for that sort of money this summer, the last thing Louis van Gaal will want to do is sign a player in a position where the club already has strength. Redknapp is right in that

Bale’s arrival would make the team stronger but United simply do not need to sign him.
