Edwin van der Sar insists nobody is irreplaceable as David de Gea rumours continue

Edwin van der Sar believes Manchester United would be able to cope with the loss of David de Gea after insisting nobody is irreplaceable.

De Gea has been at Man United for four years but he has refused to sign a new contract this year ahead of an expected move to Real Madrid.

Over those four years, De Gea has grown into one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers and although it will be a big loss, Van der Sar is confident the club will move on.

“Nobody is irreplaceable, that’s always the case,” said Van der Sar.

“At the start of the season you start with 11 players. A new player may need a little bit of adjustment or will take some time to see how the Premier League works and the different type of football.

“But I’m sure United, if David is going to leave, are going to find a good successor.”

United were able to immediately replace Van der Sar with De Gea back in 2011 but history has shown United fans just how difficult it is to immediately replace a goalkeeper.

That being said, this time around United look to be in a strong position. Victor Valdes is already at the club while the likes of Petr Cech and Hugo Lloris have also been linked, so hopefully the transition can be smooth if De Gea does join Madrid.
