Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon understands that Jasper Cillessen is close to joining Manchester United.
Earlier this week, The Telegraph reported that Cillessen had been identified as David de Gea‘s replacement if (when) he joins Real Madrid this summer and that claim has been supported by Lollichon’s comments.
Hugo Lloris and Petr Cech have also been singled out as potential replacements and Lollichon knows all about Cech having coached him at both Rennes and Chelsea.
However, speaking to French radio station RMC, Lollichon said Cillessen was the goalkeeper who Louis van Gaal had identified as De Gea’s replacement.
We’re not quite sure why Lollichon, a French goalkeeping coach at Chelsea, would know about a Dutch goalkeeper joining Man United but it’s still interesting to take his points into consideration.
Cech is widely considered to be the best choice to replace De Gea this summer given his wealth of experience in the Premier League but with Arsenal also interested, there is tough competition for his signature.
Van Gaal is going to be very busy this summer when it comes to new signings but arguably the most important deal he has to get right is replacing De Gea when he inevitably joins Real Madrid.
