Manchester United are keen to beat Chelsea to the signing of Everton defender John Stones, according to Sportsmail.
Jose Mourinho is said to be an admirer of the 21-year-old and he will instruct Chelsea to firm up their interest in him this summer.
This has led Man United to accelerate plans to bring Stones to Old Trafford. Club scouts were reportedly impressed with the player’s ability on the ball last season along with his calmness under pressure.
Manchester City are also keeping up with developments, while Arsenal have conceded they will be priced out of a move.
United may have the advantage when it comes to securing Stones’ signature as he was a boyhood fan.
Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign the 21-year-old earlier in his career but he was beaten to it by then Everton manager David Moyes.
Stones has bags of potential but there is a question mark over whether or not he could handle the pressure of moving to a club of United’s stature. However, if anyone will bring the best out of him, it is Louis van Gaal.
