Pedro: Casillas is Spain’s best goalkeeper

Barcelona attacker Pedro insists Iker Casillas is still Spain’s best goalkeeper.

The 34-year-old has faced sustained criticism over the last couple of years following a series of high profile errors at both domestic and international level.

Despite Casillas’ demise being paralleled with David de Gea‘s meteoric rise into one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers, Pedro reaffirmed his feelings that the Real Madrid shot-stopper was still the best.

“Iker is a great goalkeeper and for us is the best,” he said.

“There is nothing more to say.”

That is clearly a feeling shared by Vicente Del Bosque seeing as the Spain coach chose De Gea for Spain’s friendly game during the week and Casillas for the important Euro 2016 qualifier at the weekend.

In terms of his club career, Manchester United is the perfect platform but what Manchester can’t help De Gea with is his career with Spain.

Even with Casillas playing so badly over the last two years, he is still seemingly infallible in the eyes of some Spanish players and certainly Del Bosque whose loyalty sees past recent form.

Moving to Madrid would resolve that idea and with Euro 2016 coming up, a competition De Gea will want to play in, the 24-year-old will undoubtedly be considering more than his club future when thinking of joining Los Blancos.

Unfortunately, no matter of money from the board or love from fans can change that and that’s the moral dilemma which De Gea has no doubt gone through.
