Southampton have confirmed that they have signed Sporting Lisbon right-back Cedric Soares on a four-year contract.
The Portuguese defender could be seen as a potential replacement for Nathaniel Clyne, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.
Liverpool are also said to be in for Clyne after he admitted that he wants to make the next step in his career.
Soares has reportedly joined Southampton for a £3.6m fee. At 23-years-old, it is unlikely that he will be happy to be a squad player at his new club.

All signs are pointing to Clyne’s exit at St Mary’s, but where exactly he will end up remains unclear.
Van Gaal had been keen on bringing in Barcelona’s Dani Alves but the Brazilian signed a new contract with the European champions earlier this month.
