Memphis Depay will need to get used to being in the limelight as a Manchester United player

Memphis Depay was the star of the show at PSV last season. He finished as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 22 goals and was instrumental in their title winning campaign.

So, Depay is used to the spotlight but he’ll need to prepare himself for another level of scrutiny and microscopic attention as a Manchester United player.

This week, a picture of him alongside Chris Brown’s ex-girlfriend provoked all sorts of rumours, much like when he posted snaps of him on holiday with Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, the latter two which are somewhat to be expected given that it is transfer season.

However, it will be the pre-season tour where Depay really gets a taste for the size and scale of Man United, thanks to the USA fanbase.

Luke Shaw is one such player who has admitted to struggling to life at Old Trafford and Juan Mata is another who admitted he was shocked by the sheer size of the global fan base. It’s not uncommon for players to experience that.

That being said, Depay looks like the sort of player who will thrive this sort of attention and not let himself be bogged down by it all. He’s settling into the limelight very quickly it must be said.

If Depay can handle the spotlight straight away an hit the ground running, he could become one of United’s most important players straight off the bat.
