Marouane Fellaini praises qualities of Andreas Pereira: “He’s a big talent”

by Sam Peoples

Marouane Fellaini has praised the talent of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira after the teenager enjoyed a strong U20s World Cup campaign with Brazil.

The 19-year-old netted his side’s equaliser in the 73rd minute against Serbia but it ultimately proved insufficient to stop Brazil from being beaten 2-1 after extra time.

Although the footballing world may only now be seeing what Pereira has to offer, Fellaini believes he has everything needed to become a great player at the club.

“Andreas is a big talent,” Fellaini said.

“I think the club did everything to sign him up to a contract because a lot of teams wanted him. He has to continue like that, to work hard and to keep going and try to win his place.

“It is always good to win your own prize and your own trophy. He just has to work hard and when the chance comes to him, he should take it. Andreas is a very good player, he has a lot of good qualities and he can be a great player for United.”

Fellaini wasn’t the only Belgian to heap praise on the Brazilian towards the end of the campaign as Januzaj himself also outlined just how good he felt Pereira could become.

“He just has to work hard and when the chance comes to him, he should take it,” Januzaj said.

“Andreas is a very good player, he has a lot of good qualities and he can be a great player for United.”

United fans will certainly be hoping that Pereira can build on a strong U20s World Cup with Brazil and perhaps follow in Januzaj’s footsteps by breaking into the first-team on a more regular basis next season.

Pereira has already committed his long-term future to United with a new contract and will return next season brimming with confidence after his performances with Brazil.

Now, it’s up to Pereira to show Van Gaal why he deserves to be given opportunities in the first-team next season.
