Manchester United interested in Sergio Ramos and Bastian Schweinsteiger

Both the BBC and Sky Sports have followed up on widespread reports that Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos and Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Reports emerged from Spain over the weekend that Madrid were unwilling to meet Ramos’ demands for €10m per year on a new contract (his current one expires in 2017) and would only offer €7m as an increase on his current €6m per year deal.

With Schweinsteiger, the 30-year-old midfielder has been linked with Man United for a longer period of time as he faces an uncertain future with the German club, not to mention his fantastic relationship with Louis van Gaal which has helped rumours to gather pace.

Neither player is a traditional signing for United in the sense that they are older, established stars but Van Gaal is only likely to be at Old Trafford for another two or three years, so maybe now is the time where a signing like Angel di Maria happens every season.

There is always going to be the niggle at the back of the mind for any United fan when the likes of Ramos and Schweinsteiger get linked with United because they may well be flirting in order to get a new contract with their current clubs.

We’re going to keep on top of and follow these stories to see how they develop and with Van Gaal now back from his holiday, there may well be some accelerated movement.
