Valencia based newspaper Super Deporte have been leading the way when it comes to coverage about Nicolas Otamendi’s future.
As it currently stands, Otamendi has confirmed to reporters that his agent’s comments are a true representation of his desires.
Effectively, he admitted he wanted to leave Valencia this summer but won’t come out and specifically say it to the press.
Now, in their latest update on Otamendi, Super Deporte report some very interesting things.
First of all, they say the Argentine is the favourite choice of Rafael Benitez, the Madrid board and Florentino Perez when it comes to a summer reinforcement.
Super Deporte then go on to quote a contact close to Otamendi who unequivocally insists Real Madrid is the club which is being discussed most in his camp, not Manchester United, which indicates that is his preferred move.
It’s all a bit of a merry-go-round with defenders at the moment at Madrid.
Raphael Varane is looking for a regular first-team spot but Otamendi’s arrival would be a big hurdle for that and then you have to consider what would happen if Ramos stayed at the club as well. Would Madrid be able to keep Ramos, Pepe, Varane and Otamendi happy if all of them were at the club next season? That would take some fantastic man management by Benitez.
There is the possibility that United’s interest in Ramos is nothing but a diversion away from Otamendi but that’s all it is right now – smoke and mirrors. Soon, the speculation needs to turn into concrete moves with the pre-season fast approaching.
