Real Madrid prepared to sell Sergio Ramos to Manchester United – report

by Sam Peoples

Sergio Ramos’ future at Real Madrid is in serious doubt following a breakdown in negotiations over a new contract.

Spanish radio station Cadena COPE say Ramos wants his current €6m per year contract, which expires in 2017, improved to €10m but that Madrid are only willing to offer €7m.

Cadena COPE’s Paco Gonzalez suggests Madrid are unwilling to give improved terms to Ramos and would be willing to sell the 29-year-old if Manchester United came in with the right offer.

These reports are not the only ones to have emerged yesterday linking Ramos with an exit.

The Guardian’s Sid Lowe says Man United want Ramos as part of any deal which would see David de Gea move this summer. Meanwhile Diario AS in Spain are running with the headline that Ramos wants out of the club:

The story has also been picked up on by the British press:

Even entertaining the thought of Ramos leaving Madrid is ludicrous but it about as ludicrous as thinking Mesut Ozil or Angel di Maria could be sold, and we all know what happened there.

Is this just the latest scenario where “interest” from United is used to help a player get an improved contract offer? That possibility will always exist but the De Gea situation makes this all the more delicate.
